CLAT 2023 Eligibility Criteria: Undergraduate programmes

1. Educational Qualification – Candidates applying for BA LLB, B.Com LLB and B.Sc LLB programmes need to qualify 12th board examination under 10+2 school system.

2. 12th Board – 45 per cent marks in aggregate of the subjects. Moreover, those belonging to SC and ST categories and applying for CLAT 2022 need to score at least 40 per cent marks in the aggregate of subjects.

3. Age Criteria – Age limit: There is no age limit for appearing in CLAT 2022 for UG program.

CLAT 2023 Eligibility Criteria: Postgraduate programmes

1. Educational Qualification – Candidates applying for LLM program need to possess LLB degree. The undergraduate law degree can be either of three-year or the five-year integrated. The UG law degree needs to be awarded by an institution recognized by the Bar Council of India (BCI).

2. Minimum percentage required: 55 per cent marks in aggregate of the subjects studied at L.L.B degree. Those belonging to SC, ST and other reserved categories need to score at least 50% marks in the final year of LL.B degree examination, to be considered eligible for CLAT 2022 for PG programmes.

3. Age Criteria – As per BCI’s rules and regulations, there is no age limit specified for appearing in CLAT 2022 for PG programmes. This means, the candidates meeting the aforesaid academic qualification with the minimum marks can apply for CLAT 2022.

CLAT 2023 Exam Pattern

CLAT is a test of one’s aptitude and reasoning abilities. It comprises of five sections namely: Verbal Ability, Mathematics, Logical Reasoning, General Knowledge and Legal Aptitude.
Each question carries 1 mark and for every incorrect attempt, 0.25 marks will be deducted.

CLAT 2023 Syllabus

  • English including comprehension: The English section will test the candidates’ proficiency in English based on comprehension passages and grammar. In the comprehension section, candidates will be questioned on their understanding of the passage and its central theme, meanings of words used therein, etc. The grammar section requires correction of incorrect grammatical sentences, filling of blanks in sentences with appropriate words, etc.
  • General Knowledge and Current Affairs: The General knowledge will be tested on the general awareness including static general knowledge. Questions on current affairs will test candidates on their knowledge of national and international current affairs.
  • Mathematics: This section will test candidate’s knowledge on elementary mathematics, i.e., maths taught up to 10th Class/standard.
  • Legal Aptitude: This section will test candidate’s interest towards study of law, research aptitude and problem solving ability. Questions may include legal propositions (described in the paper), and a set of facts to which the said proposition has to be applied. Some propositions may not be “true” in the real sense, candidates will have to assume the “truth” of these propositions and answer the questions accordingly.
  • Logical Reasoning: The purpose of the logical reasoning section is to test the candidate’s ability to identify patterns, logical links and rectify illogical arguments. It may include a variety of logical reasoning questions such as syllogisms, logical sequences, analogies, etc. However, visual reasoning will not be tested.
